The Black College Tour takes place during Des Moines Public Schools spring break. The Black College Tours will provide students with information needed to strategically prepare them for college and beyond. They will receive an enhanced awareness of the academic programs, entrance requirements, career opportunities, financial resources, social and emotional support mechanisms offered by HBCUs as well as the members of IIMF. Investing In My Future, Inc. will work on securing private funding for each trip. However, there will be an application fee and once accepted, a nonrefundable reservation fee. The fees will include ground transportation to and from colleges/universities, lodging, meals and all activities during tour.

Historically Black Colleges & Universities Tours
2024 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to the Washington DC area. The students toured Cheyney University, Morgan State University, Coppin State University, and Howard University. Students participated in multiple meet and greets with university professionals and visited the MLK Monument as well as other landmarks in Washington DC. We concluded our tour with an evening at Dave & Busters.
2023 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Alabama. The students toured Miles College, Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, and Bishop Technical State College. We went on a pedal boat tour of the town and students had the opportunity to visit NASA and participate in interactive STEAM activities at NASA.
2022 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Missouri and Tennessee. The students toured Harris Stowe State University, Lincoln University, Tennessee State University, and Fisk University. We concluded the tour with a visit to Top Golf Nashville.
2021 Virtual Black College Tour
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IIMF's Black College Tour was held virtually. Students learned about Howard University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Xavier University. Alumni of IIMF who were currently attending, or had attended, these HBCU's were invited as guest tour guides to share their experiences.
2020 Black College Tour
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IIMF's Black College Tour for 2020 was cancelled to keep our students, chaperones, and volunteers safe and healthy.
2019 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Louisiana. The students toured Southern University, Dillard University, and Xavier University. We concluded the tour with a visit to a seafood buffet and the arcade.
2018 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Florida and Georgia. The students toured Edward Waters College and Fort Valley State University and Albany State University. We concluded the tour with a visit to Top Golf Atlanta.
2017 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Virginia. The students toured Hampton University, Virginia Union University, and Norfolk State University. We concluded the tour with a visit to Dave & Busters.
2016 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Alabama. The institutions were Tuskegee University, Alabama A & M, Alabama State University, and a tour of the Birmingham Civil Rights District. We concluded the tour with a Civil Rights Scavenger Hunt.
2015 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to North Carolina. The students toured Bennett College, North Carolina Central University, Winston Salem and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
2014 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour traveled to Louisiana. The students toured Southern University, Xavier University and Dillard University. We also toured areas that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. We concluded the tour with a New Orleans Scavenger Hunt.
2013 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour toured schools in Georgia. We toured Spelman College, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. The tour also included tours of African American historical sites such as Auburn Avenue, the MLK National Historic Site and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. We also participated in a NBA game watching the Falcons defeat the Trailblazers.
2012 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour took place in Ohio, Washington D.C., and Maryland. The students toured Central State University, Wilberforce University, Howard University and Morgan State University. The students also toured the Washington and Martin Luther King Monuments and the State Capitol.
2011 Black College Tour
The Black College Tour took place in Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee. The students toured Lincoln University, Harris Stowe State University, University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, Philander Smith College, Fisk University, Tennessee State University and Meharry Medical College.
